Explore Exmouth Visitor Centre

The Vision

The Exmouth Visitor Centre proposal is the culmination of aspirations held for a long time by people within the town of Exmouth. The vision to create the scheme has been brought much closer with the designation of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the drive, enthusiasm and ideas which have been injected by Captain David Conway and his wife Maggie as well as other local people involved with the project.

This centre will be an incredible visitor experience, taking in the wildlife of the Exe estuary and the bio- and geo-diversity of the Jurassic coast, linked by the extraordinary story of climate change and its effects, over the past 250 million years and into the future.

The perfect location, with its stunning views over our internationally-recognised estuary, is the disused landfill site on a reclaimed area of the estuaryside that we all know as the Imperial Recreation Ground. Planning the visitor centre gives us a fantastic opportunity to remedy the landfill issues, address the problems of rising sea levels and landscape the whole area for the people of the town.

The dream is now becoming a reality:

SWRDA has indicated that it is fully behind the Visitor Centre projects here and in Seaton, and will allocate funds if it is satisfied that the schemes are viable and meet all of its requirements.

·         East Devon District Council has set aside the Imperial Recreation Ground for the project

·         It has the support of the Environment Agency, the Met Office, the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds

·         Dozens of local people have pledged their knowledge, skills and experience to make the dream a reality

We want you to be a part of the dream too!

'As a resident of Exmouth and business leader of the wider community, I am very much looking forward to seeing the Visitor Centre  vision become a reality.'

Mike Temple, Managing Director, Lionheart
